Friends,
The report in today's "Current" about the school board meeting Tuesday night struck me as quite inaccurate. To begin the article with "In your face." misrepresents what I saw as the tone of our decision. We were not trying to create a rift with the supervisors, but responsibly react to what was a financially difficult situation by not getting in over our heads too soon. It may be controversial, but it was not meant as divisive.
MORE IMPORTANTLY: I regret to inform you that the school board will not be making a presentation to the supervisors on Tuesday about the building program or BMS. This is due to some facts that have been discovered, that make it impossible for us to proceed with our presentation. The board has not been able to meet about this yet, but we will be meeting (possibly in executive session) on Tuesday evening, at which point we will discuss this issue and, I hope, explain what the problems are. I know this sounds mysterious, but it is the best I can do at this point. I am sharing this mainly because I, and others, had been so vigorously urging people to speak up at the meeting on Tuesday. I don't want anyone to feel misled or left out on a limb by our change. People are of course free to speak up about anything before the supervisors, but at this point I need to retract my encouragement to do so on this issue. Whatever happens, the school board will continue to support a building program in all 4 attendance strands.
-Jim Klagge.
