Dear Friends,
1) Reminder that the Board of Supervisors will have a hearing on the proposed county budget and the proposed county tax rate of 70 cents/$100 assessed value. The hearing will be: March 29 Public Hearing on FY 99-00 Proposed Budget and Tax Rate, Christiansburg High School, 7:15 p.m.
The hearing is actually divided into 2 parts: at 7:15 there is a hearing on the budget itself, and at 7:45 there is a hearing on the tax rate. In practice, however, they generally allow you to speak to both issues at once if you wish. Though the proposed budget does not give the school system as much as it had asked for, it is still an ambitious budget, which requires a tax rate that will create a tax increase. Please take time to voice your views about this. Doing it in person is best, but if you wish to contact a supervisors directly by e-mail, phone, or letter, here is the information:

2) You should also know that the school board has set and advertised a public forum about the building and renovation of secondary schools in the Blacksburg area. It will be at 7pm at BHS auditorium, as part of our regular meeting on Tuesday, April 6th. It will begin with a presentation by the consultants of their report that was prepared for us. The full report is available for you to read in the libraries of any of the Blacksburg strand schools, as well as the Blacksburg and Chriatiansburg Public libraries. Please come to this forum to familiarize yourself with this important information, and voice your views or concerns. The school board will have a discussion after the forum, and could formulate a recommendation for the BoS as soon as the following meeting.
